a crazy idea

Patrick at age 46, after 20 years of a sedentary job and a sedentary lifestyle, decided he had two choices: accept that, physically, he had seen his best days and ahead lay nothing but decline enroute to the grave, or get off his butt and do something about it.

And that he did!

Patrick is an ultra-runner. What is ultra running you ask? Ultrarunning.com describes ultra running “also known as ultramarathoning, or, as we prefer, ultrarunning. The standard definition is anything past the marathon, or 26.2 miles. However, the shortest standard distance that is considered an ultra is the 50 kilometer distance, or 31.07 miles. Other standard distances are the 50 mile, 100 mile, 100 km, and a series of events that last for specified time periods such as 6 hour, 12 hour, 24 hour, 48 hour, and 6 days.”

Patrick’s journey from couch potato to a competing ultra-runner is amazing!  At Terra Organic Spa we have been privileged to be part of his training and recovery. Patrick’s treatments are customized for his specific goals. Both Sports Massage and Massage Cupping along with Acupressure have benefited his performance.

Follow Patrick’s Blog, The Running Hacker and discover more about his adventure! We hope you find him just as inspiring as we have.

“It was crazy for me to think that I could run an ultramarathon! But when I made that crazy idea my dream it gave me all the power I needed to do what I needed to do to get there. Find your crazy idea – and don’t be afraid to dream big. If others tell you you’re crazy, just say, “Yep” and keep going. It may take a long time. You will face discouragement along the way. Hold onto that crazy idea and never let it go until you get there!

Life is waiting for you, and all it takes to live it is the power of a crazy idea.” -Patrick McHenry

Patrick has finished four ultramarathon races so far!
